The Scope of the Organization
Uganda National Women’s Fish Organization (UNWFO) operates within a comprehensive scope aimed at fostering sustainable development and gender equality within the fisheries and aquaculture sector. Our scope encompasses:
1. Advocacy and Policy Engagement: UNWFO engages in advocacy efforts to influence policies and regulations that promote gender equality, sustainable fisheries management, and inclusive economic development. We collaborate with government agencies, policymakers, and stakeholders to advocate for the rights and interests of women and youth in the fishing industry.
2. Capacity Building and Skills Development: We conduct capacity building programs and training initiatives to empower women and youth with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to succeed in the fisheries value chain. Our capacity building efforts focus on technical expertise, business management, leadership development, and sustainable practices.
3. Market Access and Value Addition: UNWFO works to enhance market access for women and youth involved in fish production and trade. We support entrepreneurs in value addition activities, product diversification, and market linkages to increase the competitiveness of their products both locally and internationally.
4. Research and Innovation: We promote research and innovation in fisheries and aquaculture to generate evidence-based knowledge and best practices. By collaborating with research institutions and industry experts, we aim to identify innovative solutions to challenges faced by women and youth in the fishing sector.
5. Networking and Collaboration: UNWFO fosters collaboration and networking among stakeholders within the fisheries and aquaculture industry. We work closely with regional women’s fish associations, civil society organizations, government agencies, and international partners to leverage resources, share expertise, and amplify our collective impact.
6. Community Engagement and Empowerment: We engage with fishing communities across Uganda to raise awareness, build resilience, and promote sustainable livelihoods. Through community-based initiatives, we empower women and youth to actively participate in decision-making processes, natural resource management, and economic activities related to fisheries.
7. Monitoring and Evaluation: UNWFO conducts monitoring and evaluation activities to assess the impact of our interventions, track progress towards our goals, and identify areas for improvement. We use data-driven approaches to measure outcomes, ensure accountability, and inform strategic decision-making.
